Have you ever heard of The Carrying On Project?

“The story behind The Carrying On Project is meaningful but simple. It was founded by Kit and Rachel, who both live right outside Washington, D.C. where there are lots of military and DOD families, both active and retired. Rachel comes from a military family and Kit was Active duty before getting married, to someone who is currently still active duty, so military families are a cause close to their hearts.”

Kit and her husband first heard about babywearing while attending their prenatal classes, and really did not not know how much they would depend on it until after her husband was deployed a mere 10 days after their first child was born. Without family for support, and learning the ropes of a new baby, Kit decided to join her local babywearing group (now BWI of Colorado Springs), where she was able to borrow a wrap at her first meeting. It was love!!! Kit was absolutely amazed at how much easier day to day life was, thanks to babywearing!

“When her husband got home from deployment, he found he was having trouble holding the baby for long periods of time, so they got him an SSC and he found the love too. After two more moves in less than two years, they were pregnant again and facing another deployment. By this point, Kit had already been telling friends who were expecting, especially from her own service days, about the wonder of babywearing, but having two who were two and under while her husband was deployed really lit the fire in both her and Rachel to help make quality carriers more accessible to military families who couldn’t otherwise afford them.”

From there, The Carrying On Project was born.
