2 Slings are better than 1

PAXbaby.com

In an effort to relieve the weight of my babyworn infant, I experimented with a new “hold” or Babywearing Technique called the “Double Backwards Ring Sling Carry!” Baby #6 isn’t very heavy – 12 1/2 pounds 1t 16 weeks –  but his continual babywearing all day every day can cause some muscle soreness especially since we have been using mostly cool, airy Ring Slings due to the heat!  By the nature of the Ring Sling, this baby carrier only goes over 1 shoulder – making 1 half of your back, neck, and shoulders do more work than the other!  And being primarily right handed, I can’t easily swap Baby to my other side to use my left hand for tasks and work!  So, what’s a busy mama to do??

PAXbaby double Ring Sling Backwards Hold

PAXbaby.com

Using the Backwards Ring Sling positioning, I held Baby #6 high against my chest, threw over our heads 1 Sling, tucked the bottom edge (or “rail”) between baby’s bum and my chest and tightened it to hold him securely with the Rings on my back!  By pulling the tail down through the rings gently, first the top rail, then the bottom, I can get the perfect fit for Baby and I!  Then, taking the second Sling, I threw it over both of our hands going the OTHER way with the ring son my back in the opposite direction!  By tightening this second sling also, I ended up with a “Double Ring Sling” supporting Baby’s weight on both shoulders equally and helping to distribute his weight evenly across my entire neck, shoulders, and upper back!  Aaaaaah, it felt GREAT!!!!  I’m not too sure I can go back to Single Ring Sling wearing again!!!

That PERFECT pair of jeans!

.

One of the most common questions we get here at PAXbaby from people who NEED a GREAT carrier that’s easy to use and quick to toss on is “which one of these SSCs is best for me?”  A carrier is a lot like that perfect pair of jeans–no one carrier will fit any two wearers exactly the same!

.

.

But PAXbaby carries at least eleventy-billion (at last count) carriers, you say!  How is one supposed to narrow it down to just ONE?  (Or two… or five… ;) )  Enter PAXbaby’s NEW SSC Carrier Comparison Matrix!  This handy dandy chart can quickly help you narrow down your options and find true babywearing BLISS!!  And of course, please email us if you have any questions or need help narrowing down your options!

Overwhelmed?  Consider renting a carrier or three to try before you buy with PAXbaby’s Sling Exchange rental program!

The incredible and versatile Manduca!!

Today, PAXbaby mama Kristie blogs about the Manduca!

——————————————————————————-

I first read about the Manduca when Jillian blogged about it while on her Australian adventure, but because they’re not available for sale in the US, I hadn’t been able to try one, *sob*!  However, one happy day, a beautiful Organic Red one came back to PAXbaby as previously-loved, and I JUMPED on it!

.

Since then, it’s become one of my favorite carriers–versatile and comfy!  I like that I can leave the back zipped when my toddler wants to ride with her arms out and look around, and then unzip the back to give her a little more support when she’s ready to nap!  I love how adjustable every little bit is: even the hood has a button-elastic sizing system (if you’ve seen a one-size Fuzzibunz, it’s the same idea) to help it cradle any size of head that might be nodding off while in the carrier!

.

Now, as a mama of two, I love it even more–it truly does it all for either kiddo!  The internal newborn harness is easy to use and snuggles my little Buglet into the lightly padded body of the carrier (but there are no extra pieces to have to remember to bring!), and the hood easily sizes down to cradle her head while providing good airflow!  Yet with no work or complicated adjustments, I can easily toss my older Bug on my back for some fun adventures as well!

.

The first picture is my Buglet at six weeks old snuggled in for a nap while on a family adventure.  The hood clips on the shoulder straps slide up and down depending on the angle you want the hood at for a smaller kiddo, and leaving them farther up provided some shade while still ensuring good airflow and allowing me to see her cute little face!

. .

However, not too long afterwards, Daddy wanted some snuggles with the Buglet and my BIG girl wanted some snuggles with mom, so I switched gears… but without having to switch anything on the Manduca!

.

Yep, it’s safe to say that we’re fans!

Babylegs are back!

.

That’s right, Babylegs fans, your FAVORITE legwarmers are coming back to PAXbaby just in time for cool weather!

.

How are Babylegs GREAT for babywearers?

  • They cover that gap between pants and socks when baby is in a carrier!
  • They provide an extra layer under baby’s pants for cold-weather babywearing!
  • Put on little arms and fold over hands to keep tiny fingers toasty!
  • Tuck socks into the bottom to keep them from falling off!
  • ???  The possibilities are almost endless!

.

Babylegs will be available at PAXbaby by mid-September, but YOU, our loyal blog readers, have the chance to email Kristie at kristie.paxbaby@gmail.com to find out about our preorder SPECIAL!

.

Act fast–preorders are only open through midnight on Tuesday 8/23!

Gemini Safety Buckles

PAXbaby.com

Beco fans, I admit that the safety buckles on the Gemini got me pretty flustered when the newest Beco baby carrier was revealed!  Going from the Beco Butterfly with its easy waist buckle to the Gemini with its safety buckle was not an easy transition for me until….  The day I discovered that the safety buckles could actually be manipulated with one hand!!!!  Your baby’s weight acts to pull the male part of the buckle forward when the safety button is released, allowing your same hand to pinch the buckle prongs to open without having to reach across and use the other hand!!!  This knowledge made me fall even more in love with my Beco Gemini since it is the sweetest newborn Soft Structured Carrier in my stash!!!!   Watch this video, lovingly taken by my 8 year old, and learn how to unfasten your Gemini safety buckles in a snap!!!!

The PAXbaby family

PAXbaby.com

I know that I talk a lot about my family, and my vast 8+ years of babywearing experience, but you don’t often see all of us together & featured on the PAXbaby blog!  It’s just too hard to pin down 6 wiggly kids to take a decent picture!  However, last weekend, we took a road trip “back home” to Santa Barbara, and a friend took our picture at Goleta Beach!!!

That’s the PAXdaddy holding Baby #5, Baby #1 and #2 on the left, and Baby #4 and #3 in front of me!  Yes, Baby #3 is adopted – from birth and breastfed along side her sister for 13 months!  I’m wearing Baby #6 in a Wrap Conversion Mei Tai and soaking up every bit of the baby snuggles that I can because I “don’t know whether we’ll be blessed by another baby in our family or not!”  We homeschool, cloth diaper, recycle, compost, grow our own veggies, use family cloth, extended rear face in the car, babywear with a passion, and don’t vaccinate – that’s the PAXbaby family in a nutshell! Who are you?
