Just a gentle reminder

Just a gentle reminder that there is something better for you and for baby than the “big box” brand forward facing/ back killing, crotch danglers that are so prevalent in today’s society!!!

PAXbaby Baby Bjorn

PAXbaby

If you see a mom wearing any of the carriers on PAXbaby’s no-no list (Bjorn, Evenflo, Snugli, Jeep) would you do me a favor, and take a minute to ooh and aah over their baby and slip in a comment about how much more comfortable your baby carrier is than theirs, LOL?  A LOT of us started with a front facing carrier so it’s a great conversation starter, or how about mentioning how your back doesn’t hurt anymore after wearing your baby in your fabulous PAXbaby carrier!?!  Come on, moms, get motivated to change 1 mom’s life TODAY by introducing her to our wonderful world of extended babywearing and true baby bonding!!!!

Beco Breastfeeding – like magic, but messier

Thank you to Jennifer P from Ontario, Canada, for this adorable post reminding us all how important it is to learn to breastfeed in our baby carriers to make life easier!  Her breastfeeding post at “Decaf Please” made me laugh out loud!  Hope you do too!!!!

Ever since getting my Beco, I’ve wondered how I can nurse in it. The literature and posts from users rave about how easy it was to do. But I wondered if it was like the breastfeeding videos that were looping in the hospital when Newt arrive: it was easy if your Girls weren’t gigantically and painfully engorged, your baby not crying (or falling asleep). Finally on Beco’s Facebook page, they posted Lauren’s how-to video.

Like all aspects of breastfeeding, this one takes practice. I watched the video over and over again, disappointed that when the wee babe was latching on Lauren modestly turned her back to the camera. I don’t blame her, but it left me wondering how exactly to get Gillian on. I hope between the video and the following tips that you will be able to successfully breastfeed your baby in your carrier (Beco or otherwise). I’ve nursed her in my Beco everywhere from the security check in at the airport to the toy aisle at a department store (which is when Newt told me that it was just like magic – me being able to feed Gilly and while I let him play with obnoxious toys I’d never buy).

  • The first few times will be very awkward. I started when Gilly was 4 months old and had head control.
  • Don’t wait until your baby is really hungry when you are learning how. First, because your baby will be angry and screaming. Second, if you’re like me you will be overflowing and will get milk everywhere.
  • Be sure to wear a top that you can pull down, to the side or a nursing tank. I made the mistake yesterday of wearing a nursing-unfriendly top (a normal t-shirt like normal women wear) and it was a disaster. Screaming baby and milk everywhere while I tried to pull my shirt up.
  • If you are modest or don’t like subjecting passerbys to your self-made splash zone, bring along your nursing cover to put over top while trying to get baby to latch on. This is what I do. Gilly is also very easily distracted that the cover helps keep her focused. This is also why I am so happy that Lauren posted her video because I am too shy.
  • I would guess that anatomy would play a big part in this. I need to make sure that Gilly is fairly loose because The Girls would otherwise smush her.
  • Did I mention practice?
  • Did I mention I love my Beco?

PAXbaby #6 name game

PAXbaby.com

Am I packing your order, and putting new products up online?  Am I planning my next order with BabyHawk, and organizing my office?

PAXbaby.com

Nope, I am researching baby names and plotting the moniker for PAXbaby #6!!!  Any ideas for this peaceful sprout???  I am heavily pushing for “Quincy” however, the entire D8 family has turned it down!  If this little future babyworn baby is a boy, he is going to need a name, and since I’m a planner, I’m thinking about it sooner than later!

Any ideas?

Let’s talk BCIA!

PAXbaby

Babywearing mamas, let’s talk about something serious….  our baby carriers are under attack from CPSC and we need to make sure that we are doing something about it!!!! The BCIA is the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance which was formed to “advance the well-being, growth, and interests of baby carrier manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, and educators.”   Anyone who wears a baby carrier, makes a carrier, or promotes babywearing needs to be involved because in this case, numbers matter!  The more force we have behind the BCIA the more productive we can be and the less the CPSC will want to mess with us!  The BCIA has over 500 members now, and that’s just in 3 months!

PAXbaby

At the first annual meeting last night, Vesta – formerly of Ellaroo – challenged us each to invite, well actually recruit, 5 friends to join the BCIA!  If each of them then tells 5 friends and so on, think how quickly we can grow!!!  The main focus of BCIA right now is the  “work with the ASTM to establish a voluntary standard for sling-style carriers.  Without quality standards that are written in a way to be achievable to small home businesses, our industry stands in grave regulatory danger.”

The dinner last night was so much fun, although the PAXbaby mama had to bow out early due to PAXBaby #6 deciding to not like Mexican food…  It was fabulous to see so many babywearing leaders all in 1 room!  Vesta, Kristi Hayes, the Gypsymama, the BabyHawk mamas, the Sakura Bloom family, Rochelle Price and her cute men from Sling Rings, the Beco Baby Carrier crew, and many more!!!

If you love babywearing, and you don’t want our way of life to change or become “outlawed” please join the BCIA and help make a difference for our babies and future babies!

Vegas, baby!

PAXbaby

PAXbaby took to the road yesterday, and headed to Las Vegas for the FABULOUS annual baby and kids product convention!  Yes, that’s right, we are SHOPPING!!!  Everything baby is at this show, but of course, PAXbaby spends the most time with our friends at the baby carrier booths!  We visited with Pikkolo – Catbird Baby, lovely Lynn from Sakura Bloom, Ruth, Jose, & Gabby at Beco Baby Carriers, and of course, the wild girls from BabyHawk!!!  Check out pix at Facebook!!!!

PAXbaby

After a long day at the convention center and a great meal with Robyn, Jess, Jodi & friends, we went to see the fountains at the Bellagio with our small friend, Harper!  He is 7 months old, and was such a good boy today at the show!!!!!  He wasn’t thrilled about the casino smoke, but the water show was a hit!  Featuring a gorgeous BabyHawk Oh Snap! and a Simply Black Mai Poketto, PAXbaby mamas, Jillian & Christina were representing babywearing in style!!!!
